INTRO: Installing an EV charger at home is becoming more common as more people switch to However, the cost of installing it can vary depending on factors such as the location of the premises and the complexity of the installation. Let’s explore the different types of EV chargers and look at the estimates about their installation costs. 


The cost of installing an EV charger at home can range from a few thousand rupees to several thousand rupees, depending on the type of charger and the installation requirements 


  1. Level 1 charger: This is the slowest type of charger, and it typically comes with the EV. It uses a standard 120-volt household outlet and can take up to 20 hours to fully charge the EV. The cost of installing a Level 1 charger ranges from around INR 15,000 to INR 25,000. 
  2. Level 2 charger: This type of charger is much faster than a Level 1 charger and can fully charge an EV in about four to six hours. It requires a 240-volt circuit and a dedicated circuit-breaker, which can cost between INR 40,000 and INR 1,50,000 depending on the complexity of the installation.
  3. DC fast charger: This type of charger can provide up to 80 per cent charge in as little as 20-30 minutes. However, it requires a lot of power and is usually installed in public places, or commercial buildings. The cost of installing a DC fast charger can range from INR 15,00,000 to INR 80,00,000.

The estimated costs mentioned above also include the cost of an electric metre with a smart billing mechanism. The cost may also vary depending on the type and quantity of the wire used to install a specific EV charger.
